FAQs

What is a group break?

Group breaks may seem like the hot new way to collect but the idea has been around for a very long time. It started when a group of people would go into a hobby shop and buy a box or case of cards. They would then open a box or case and divide the cards between them. It’s a way to collect without paying for a full box or case of cards. There are many different ways to split a case of cards.

TYPES OF BREAKS

Pick Your Team (PYT)

Just as the name says, you choose your team. We mostly do Pick Your Team style breaks on new product release days. The prices of each team vary and reflect the possible value of hits for each team.

Please refer to the break description to see which cards will be shipped.

Random Team Style

All spots in Random Team Style breaks are the same price. Before the cards are opened, we use Random.org to determine which collector gets which team. Sometimes we have combo spots where we combine two teams into one spot. We do this with the teams that have a lower number of hits in the product.

Random Divisions

This is similar to the Random Team breaks but each break is divided up by division, instead of by the team.  For example, a baseball break would be divided into NL East, NL West, AL East, AL West, etc.

Random Hit

In random hit style breaks, each collector gets a hit. We open the product first and list the hits in a spreadsheet. We then use random.org  to determining which collector gets which hit.

Draft Styles

In these breaks, each spot purchased is guaranteed a hit.

RANDOM HIT  – All cards are opened and recorded. The hits are assigned to each customer using Random.org.

LIVE HIT DRAFT – All cards are opened. The customer names are assigned an order using Random.org. Each customer then chooses their hit in the order assigned. You must be present or reachable when the product is opened so that you may choose your card(s).

Random Serial Numbers

This break is popular for products like Flawless and National Treasures where there aren’t a high number of cards per box, or case. Each customer is assigned a number from Random.org. The number represents the first number of the card numbering. For example, if you are assigned the number 7, you would get cards that are serial numbered 7/10 and 7/25. The number of spots in this style of break is determined by the product. This is a less expensive break because of the number of spots, but the odds of getting a hit are lower because of the number of spots.

Personal Box Break

We have a stock of boxes on our website that we call Personals. You can purchase a personal box of cards and we will open it live for you online. It’s important to read the description of the box you are buying as some products don’t include the shipment of base cards.  This helps keep your costs down due to lower shipping fees. If you purchase a RIP IT, the box will be ripped live on either YouTube/Twitch or Instagram depending on which option you choose. Do not purchase a RIP IT and expect a sealed box to be shipped to you.

Break Rules

NON PRO LOGO/UNLICENSED PRODUCTS & CARDS
COMMON SENSE RULES:

THE CARD WILL ALWAYS GO TO THE DESIGNATED TEAM/CITY ON THE CARD. IF IT SAYS OAKLAND IT GOES TO THE OAKLAND A'S. HOWEVER, IF THERE IS NO MENTION OF A CITY/TEAM ON THE CARD AND THE PLAYER IS DEPICTED IN A PARTICULAR UNIFORM (I.E. PINSTRIPES, CERTAIN STYLE ETC) IT WOULD GO TO THE TEAM DEPICTED. SO AN ICHIRO CARD WITH HIM IN PINSTRIPES AND ALSO NO MENTION OF A CITY/TEAM ON THE CARD IT WOULD GO TO YANKEES. A MULTI PLAYER CARD IS PULLED AND IT HAS NO MENTION OF A CITY/TEAM, BUT IT HAS A THEME TO IT, THE CARD WILL GO TO THE INTENDED TEAM IN THE THEME OF THE CARD. (OZZIE SMITH, JACK CLARK & MARK MCGWIRE WITH NO MENTION OF THE CITY/TEAM WOULD GO TO THE CARDINALS UNLESS STATED OTHERWISE ON THE CARD.
IF THERE IS A CHECKLIST FOR THE PRODUCT IN QUESTION, AND IT STATES IT GOES TO A PARTICULAR TEAM, THAT WILL ALWAYS OVERRIDE ANY OF THESE STIPULATIONS.)

COLLEGIATE/NIL RULES: IF A CARD IS PULLED AND THE PLAYER IS IN THE PROFESSIONAL LEAGUE OF THEIR SPORT, IT GOES TO THAT PROFESSIONAL TEAM. IF WE ARE DOING A BREAK USING PROFESSIONAL TEAMS AND A CARD IS PULLED OF A PLAYER THAT IS NOT YET ASSIGNED TO A PROFESSIONAL TEAM WE WILL INCLUDE A NON-PROFESSIONAL SPOT IN THE LIST OF TEAMS AND IT WILL GO TO THAT SPOT. PLEASE BE SURE TO READ ALL OF OUR BREAK DESCRIPTIONS BEFORE ENTERING. IT WILL SPECIFY ANY SPECIAL RULES FOR THAT PRODUCT.

MULTIPLAYER CARD RANDOM RULES

Some products have cards with multiple players or teams. We random these to the appropriate customers using Random.org. Majority rules! If a person owns MORE THAN 50% of the card (2 out of 3 teams or 3 out of 5 teams), they win the card by majority.

WE OPEN THE PRODUCT LIVE

We stream live from our YouTube channel and on Twitch.tv. If you are unable to watch live, you can go back and watch the uploaded video. All videos are uploaded after the break takes place.

SKUNKING (GOING HITLESS)

We have no idea what is in the boxes or cases of cards so it is possible for you not to get a hit. Sadly, it is possible to not get any cards for your team. This is part of group breaks and needs to be taken into consideration when purchasing a break spot.
